Hello,
Some interesting food for thought we have stumbled across here.
Changes in marriage law, which would give “non-religious” outdoor wedding ceremonies legal status could mean big business for pubs and other venues, which have the space in their grounds to host weddings.
The move in legislation comes amid growing concerns about the rising cost of weddings in the UK. As the average cost of venue hire has reached an all time hire of £2,763, couples are increasingly keen to find alternatives and marquees are proving popular as an appealing, yet affordable, venue for outdoor receptions.
The change in marriage law could open up lucrative opportunities for pubs, community centres and hotels to host the whole of a wedding ceremony under the cover of marquees and gazebos, maximizing their income from such events.
The proposal comes from a group of cross-party MPS scrutinizing the same-sex marriage bill which has just this week been backed in a vote by the House of Lords. Similar legislation was passed in Scotland five years ago and whilst legislation for outdoor weddings in England may not make it into the same-sex marriage bill, as some MPs argue that it would cloud more important issues, the political scene seems ripe for such a change to take place in the near future.
We hope this gives the people who want to get married a chance without breaking the bank, lets keep our fingers crossed.
Iain.
